Feeds up to  500 families weekly

The Alcardo Andrews Foundation (AAF) was established in 2015 by Avril Andrews to honour her son and other boys and men who lost their lives to gang violence. It operates in Hanover Park and serves up to 1,000 meals per day.

AAF program activities: 

Mom’s Move for Justice – this program helps mothers to deal with the psychological, social and legal implications of losing their children to gang violence. It accompanies mothers through the court system which can be challenging and lengthy. 

Fatherhood program – addresses the underlying causes of violence in communities. 

Youth program – to provide opportunities for young people in Hanover Park to learn, grow and open up opportunities that are alternative to gang life.

Community Kitchen – to provide nutritional support to families who are living with endemic poverty and unemployment. 

The community kitchen launched in 2016 was amplified in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and it reached more than 1000 people daily, sustaining 400 to 500 families. The foundation requires regular donations of dry ingredients and meat, vegetables, spices and cooking oil. It requires gas and PPE for staff members. Other needs are fencing and financial assistance for maintenance work and operational expenses.
