Charmaine’s Kitchen feeds children and youth in Wesbank. The kitchen serves up to 300 children and youth in Wesbank per day. Charmaine provides breakfast porridge almost daily and lunch three times per week.

Chairmaine’s Kitchen is part of the Ubuntu Rural Women & Youth Movement and was foundeded as one of 10 community kitchens during the COVID pandemic. It is one of the few remaining kitchens which is testimony to the endurance of Charmaine Lof or Auntie Charmaine to some of us.

Charmaine’s Kitchen operates on these three pillars:

• Food security
• Providing nutritious food
• Combating GBV and gangsterism

Kitchen needs:

Regular donations of dry ingredients i.e. rice, lentils, samp, and perishable goods such as meat and vegetables. Other needs are 10L pots, folding table, chairs, umbrellas and a banner. The kitchen also needs financial help; it costs R1,200 per month to pick up donations of food items for the kitchen and R600 to fill up the gas. As a SASSA pensioner it is hard for Auntie Charmaine to cover all expenses from her pocket.
