Getting the story right

This chapter explores the transformative potential of storytelling and collaborative writing in decolonizing research and academic discourse. Co-authored by Sanelisiwe Nyaba and Nicole Paganini, it reflects their experiences in researching food injustice and the vital roles women play in urban food systems. By combining their diverse backgrounds and perspectives, the authors aim to challenge power dynamics in academia and amplify the voices of marginalized communities. Through storytelling, they emphasize the need to recognize the invisible labor of women, particularly in community kitchens, and advocate for systemic changes that value care work. This chapter serves as a call to action for more inclusive and equitable research practices that honor lived experiences and foster community engagement.
