Ubuntu Rural Women & Youth Movement

operated 10 community kitchens at the height of the COVID epidemic

Established in 2012 by Wendy Pekeur with the focus of ensuring women and youth in rural/peri-urban communities have the tools to change their lives. Ubuntu Rural Kitchen’s program launched in 2020 as a response to COVID lockdow. During this period, it served up to 2000 people daily. Ubuntu’s kitchens are currently not operating due to lack of resources.

Ubuntu was founded on six pillars:

  • Transformation work
  • Paralegal work
  • Empowerment work
  • Advocacy & lobbying work
  • Solidarity work
  • Economic empowerment.

Like the other community kitchens dry and wet ingredients for nutritious meals, gas, a freezer and operational expenses are required.
